About Tape2Type

Tape2Type is a small, independent tool with one job: turn a recording into clean text without the usual friction. No subscription to forget about, no software to install, no ten-minute signup before you can do a single thing. Paste a link or drop a file, watch it transcribe, and take your transcript.

Why we built it

Most transcription services are built for teams and priced for teams — monthly plans you have to cancel, free tiers that quietly cap you, and a wall of features you never asked for. If you just have one recording you need in writing, that's a lot of overhead. We wanted something you could use once, pay 50p, and walk away from — or buy a handful of credits if you come back. That's the whole idea.

Privacy comes first

You're trusting us with your audio, so here's the deal: your files are processed only to produce your transcript and then deleted on a short schedule. We don't sell your data, and we never train models on your private recordings. Payments run through Stripe, so your card details never touch our servers.

What you get

Every transcript is more than a wall of text — you also get an AI summary, key takeaways, timestamped chapters, and an "ask this video" chat, then one-click export to TXT, PDF, DOCX or SRT subtitles. Create a free account and your transcripts are saved to a dashboard you can come back to any time.

Honest about the limits

Automatic transcription typically lands around 95% on clear audio, and lower on noisy recordings, heavy crosstalk or strong accents — like every tool of this kind. Transcripts currently come back as continuous text rather than split by speaker. We'd rather tell you that up front than oversell it.
